LocalSynapse v1.0.1 — Your Download Is Finally Here

2026-02-28·3 min read

Today, I'm releasing LocalSynapse v1.0.1.

To those of you who signed up for the waitlist — I want to start by saying thank you. You put your email down before a single download existed, and honestly, you're the reason I was able to get this far.

Why I built this

I kept running into the same frustrations at work.

Searching for a file I KNOW exists, wasting 10–15 minutes digging through folders. Finding five versions of the same report scattered across Desktop, Downloads, and three project folders — then opening each one to figure out which is the latest. Wanting to ask ChatGPT or Claude to help me find something on my own PC, only to remember that they can't actually see my local files. So the tedious manual search falls back on me, every single time.

I decided to build something about it.

What makes it different

LocalSynapse searches inside your documents — by content and meaning, not just filenames. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HWP — it reads what's actually written inside your files and indexes it.

Search for "board meeting agenda" and it'll find a document that says "annual general meeting resolutions." Even if the filename is just doc1.xlsx, if the content matches what I was looking for, it shows up.

Related versions are automatically grouped together. Everything runs 100% on your machine. No files sent to external servers. No AI training on your data. No login required. And it's completely free.

A bit of honesty

This is the first public version. There will be bugs. Some things won't work the way they should. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

That's why your feedback genuinely matters to me. Tell me what's broken. Tell me what's confusing. Tell me what you wish it could do. Even a one-line message — I'll read every single one. You can reach me through the feedback form on the website, on GitHub, or at local.synapse@gmail.com.

What's next

I'm working on email search integration, an MCP server for AI agents, and a bunch of quality-of-life improvements. I want to use your feedback to personally decide what gets built next.

Download

Get it at localsynapse.com. After installation, it automatically scans and indexes your files in the background — zero configuration needed.

I hope LocalSynapse saves you the same frustration it was built to solve.

— Ryan
